Develop

We’re working to find effective treatments for motor neuron disease by understanding what happens inside cells and identifying the drugs that could make the biggest difference. Our research brings together scientists from across the UK to share tools, data and ideas, creating a faster, more reliable route from laboratory discovery to potential treatment.

Developing Stem Cells

We’re developing motor neurons from stem cells carrying the genetic changes linked to MND, then study what goes wrong inside them. Five universities each bring a different lens, from how neurons send signals to how they respond to stress, building a shared, validated library of cell lines that researchers across the UK can use in their research.

Discovery Science Group

The Discovery Science Group brings together MND researchers from across the UK to share findings, coordinate new studies, and connect early-career scientists with more experienced colleagues. It meets monthly with a rotating chair and works alongside the Medicines Discovery Catapult’s industry forum to help promising lab discoveries find a route toward funding and development, the discovery-science counterpart to our national Clinical Studies Group.
