Siddharthan Chandran

Professor Siddharthan Chandran is Director of the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) and an expert in neurodegenerative diseases. He is a practising neurologist and scientist working at the forefront of the emerging discipline of regenerative neurology, renowned for his work in MND and MS.

Chandran’s research aims to unravel interactions between astrocytes, microglia and neurons to better understand their contributions to neurodegeneration and protection in ALS. This is linked to innovation in clinical trial design. He is Co-lead Investigator of MND-SMART, a pioneering UK wide multi-arm, multi-stage platform trial for MND.

Chandran is Director of the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research and the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at the University of Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
